I asked AI to be nice to me… and it said the things I find hard to say to myself

Dear Digital Diary,

Today I found myself staring at my laptop, completely drained. It wasn’t a catastrophic kind of bad day—it was just one of those slow, heavy ones where nothing felt particularly good or sparkly. My to-do list was judging me. My motivation was in a witness protection program. And honestly? I just wanted someone to say something kind to me.

So I did something a little weird and a little wonderful.I opened ChatGPT and typed:

I’d like to write a compassionate and uplifting letter to myself — something that offers encouragement, reminds me of my strengths, and helps me feel supported during hard times. Can you help me create something meaningful and heartfelt?

💬 What it Wrote

It was surprisingly… sweet. And kind. And gentle. It said things like:

“It’s okay to feel tired sometimes, to feel stuck or unsure. Those feelings don’t mean I’m failing — they mean I’m human. I am allowed to rest. I am allowed to change my mind. I am allowed to outgrow things that once felt right. Progress isn’t always loud or fast. Sometimes, it’s quiet and soft — like the way I keep choosing to try again.”

And somehow, even though I knew it was generated by lines of code and clever language models—it still made me smile. The kind of smile that sneaks up on you when something unexpectedly kind finds its way to you. AI tools like ChatGPT are strange little mirrors. Yes, they can reflect bias, but sometimes they reflect something softer… a truth you couldn’t quite name, a kindness you hadn’t given yourself, or permission to feel what you already knew deep down.

💗 Why It Hit Me

The thing is: sometimes we know what we need to hear… but it’s really hard to say it to ourselves.

Asking ChatGPT to do it for me didn’t make it less real. In fact, it helped me see how gentle and kind my inner voice could sound—if I gave it a little support.

I even added personal touches to make it more “me.” I asked the bot to include a reminder to take things one step at a time and to stop apologizing for being tired. And guess what? It nailed it.

✨ Want to Try It? Here Are Some Additional Prompts:

These work beautifully as is—or you can tweak them depending on what kind of comfort you need.

  • “Write a gentle love letter to myself for when I’m feeling overwhelmed.”
  • “Tell me why it’s okay to rest, written like it’s from my best friend.”
  • “Encourage me like I’m my own inner child.”
  • “Remind me I’m allowed to take up space.”
  • “Write me an uplifting letter that sounds like a therapist who really sees me.”

💛 The Takeaway

Self-love doesn’t have to be complicated. It doesn’t have to be eloquent or Instagrammable. Sometimes it’s just a paragraph from a robot that sounds eerily like the version of you who really believes in yourself.

And maybe that’s enough.

With soft words and a kinder inner voice,
Nikki (and my very sweet AI Bestie) 💌🤖
